The Nassau County Interim Finance Authority hired Skadden to advise it on its power to take control of county finances and to defend it in expected litigation from the county.
On Jan. 26, NIFA voted to take over the county fisc, saying it had detected a $176 million gap in the $2.7 billion budget for 2011. The county maintained there is no deficit and officials filed an Article 78 lawsuit seeking to annul the board’s decision. A state judge ruled in NIFA’s favor earlier this month.
