ALBANY – A federal judge has decided that the Mizuno baseball glove company committed an error when it used “softhands” to describe the ball-swallowing features of its gloves.

Northern District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby ruled that Mizuno infringed on the Softhands trademark registered in1995 by the Birmingham Softhands Infield Trainer Co. of Syracuse, and ordered Mizuno to use its best efforts to withdraw its Softhands gloves from retailers and destroy all products, labels, advertisements and other materials in the marketplace using the trademarked word.
