Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey K. Oing has been assigned to the Commercial Division to take over former judicial hearing officer Ira Gammerman‘s heavy caseload. Mr. Gammerman stopped working as a JHO on April 1, when funding for the program was suspended as part of a $170 million cut to the court system’s budget.
Mr. Gammerman’s departure raised concerns among attorneys practicing in the Commercial Division that the remaining judges would not be able to handle all of his cases without significant delays. As of March, Mr. Gammerman accounted for 10 percent to 15 percent of the division’s total caseload.
