District Attorneys Daniel M. Donovan Jr. of Staten Island and Richard A. Brown of Queens (above, left to right) were among the New York City prosecutors who spoke yesterday at a City Council hearing on the budget for the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1. In total, the city’s six prosecutors are facing a 1 percent funding decrease in the executive budget over last year.

Mr. Donovan petitioned the Council for an additional $250,000 to his $7.4 million budget, hoping to save the borough’s Drug Treatment Court. Last year, he said, 183 individuals avoided incarceration by successfully completing treatment via the court’s guidance, saving the city about $10 million.
