A 20-year-old woman who had been arrested for the first time was not sufficiently informed of her rights by a Bronx judge when she pleaded guilty to loitering for the purpose of prostitution, an appellate panel has ruled.

A unanimous panel of the Appellate Division, First Department, unanimously vacated Jasmine Vickers’ December 2008 guilty plea, holding that, given her age and lack of criminal history, Justice George R. Villegas (See Profile) did not ensure that she knew what she was pleading to. The panel also dismissed the accusatory instrument.
