The convicted murderer of a young doctor in Washington Heights in 1981 has lost his attempt to win a new trial.

Darryl Whitley’s petition for a writ of habeas corpus was granted last year by Southern District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein on the grounds that his rights under the confrontation clause were violated at his second trial for the murder of Dr. John Chase Wood.
