Judge Daniel Friedman, the last surviving original member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, died on July 6 at the age of 95.

Friedman, who died at his home, was also the last chief judge of the U.S. Court of Claims, the Federal Circuit’s predecessor. He served as chief of that court from 1978 until 1982, when it merged with the Court of Customs and Patent Appeals to become the Federal Circuit.
