Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s court date is being postponed until next month. Prosecutors and defense lawyers said yesterday that the July 18 date was postponed until Aug. 1.

The case has been cast into doubt after prosecutors said the hotel maid who accused the former International Monetary Fund chief of trying to rape her had not been truthful about her background and her actions right after the alleged attack. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said in a letter that the postponement is “to facilitate both parties’ continued investigation.” A spokeswoman said yesterday that no decision has been made about the case’s future. Defense lawyers say they hope prosecutors will use the time to decide to dismiss the case.
