As multidistrict litigation begins in New York over the alleged sudden acceleration of some Toyotas, Supreme Court Justice Stephen A. Bucaria in Nassau County, at right, yesterday directed, above from left, Toyota’s lawyers Steven R. Kramer of Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellott in White Plains and Joel H. Smith of Bowman and Brooke in Columbia, S.C.; and plaintiffs’ liaison attorney Terrence E. McCartney of Rheingold, Valet, Rheingold & McCartney in New York, to complete a proposed case management order before an Aug. 11 appearance.

Justice Bucaria is supervising the discovery and pretrial motions of 27 state cases, comprised of 26 personal injury actions and one economic loss claim. Once the cases are trial-ready they will be sent back to their original jurisdictions for trial.
