Responding to climbing arrest-to-arraignment times in Brooklyn, court administrators, who last month shortened weekend arraignment hours throughout the city, have added an eight-hour day shift on Saturdays and Sundays in the borough’s Criminal Court at 120 Schermerhorn St.
The move was necessary, explained Judge Lawrence Marks, the court system’s administrative director, because “it was apparent from the data that we had too few weekend hours in Brooklyn and the only way to remedy that was to resort to overtime.”
