Debevoise & Plimpton announced yesterday that it has hired M. Natasha Labovitz as a partner in New York. Ms. Labovitz, 40, joins from Kirkland & Ellis, where her notable assignments included serving as debtor’s counsel on Chapter 11 cases involving Chemtura Corporation, which filed for bankruptcy protection in 2009, and TOUSA Inc., which did so in 2008.

In moving to Debevoise, Ms. Labovitz—who expects to represent debtors and creditors in and out of bankruptcy—joins a group of some 20 corporate and litigation lawyers who make up the firm’s bankruptcy and restructuring group in New York. Group co-chair Richard Hahn said in an interview that the firm has been looking to expand the group for some time. “We’re on the smallish side and [bankruptcy is] a practice area that’s pretty intense in terms of senior lawyer time,” he said.
