Three Upper West Side buildings that had rented single occupancy rooms to tourists will ensure that their units are solely used for permanent residents under a settlement recently approved by a Manhattan judge.

The Nov. 22 settlement ends four years of litigation in which New York City contended the buildings’ practice of renting rooms to tourists for less than 30 days constituted “transient occupancy” in violation of local zoning laws.
