Eastern District Magistrate Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr. and Day Pitney partner Edgardo Ramos are set to become the 42nd and 43rd judges in the Southern District of New York after both nominees were confirmed Monday by the U.S. Senate.

Magistrate Judge Carter is a 1994 Harvard Law School graduate who worked for the Ford Foundation for two years before spending 13 years as a public defender, handling cases at the Legal Aid Society and the Federal Defenders of New York, where he rose to supervising attorney. He was appointed as a magistrate judge in Brooklyn in 2009.
