A judge has refused to sign off on what he called a “ludicrous” offer from a finance company to pay a woman $6,000 in cash for the transfer of $70,000 in future payments from her structured settlement.

Justice Ferris D. Lebous of Broome County Supreme Court (See Profile) said the petition for court approval of the proposed agreement between Michelle Longe and Peachtree Settlement Funding was the latest in a “troubling history” of her management of a structured settlement of just under $850,000 that she received in 2005 for the wrongful death of two of her children.
