When the New York branch of Philadelphia-based Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads took on nine of 11 attorneys at Kurzman Karelsen & Frank in March, it was the latest example of what has become a surge of small firm acquisitions.
Kurzman Karelsen, a Manhattan firm with roots dating back to the late 19th century, represents building co-ops and focuses on litigation and corporate work. It is now part of a 135 lawyer-firm with 17 lawyers in the New York office.
