The attorney for the woman accused of running an Upper East Side brothel says he will appeal a judge’s decision to deny overturning the $2 million bond for his client. Anna Gristina’s attorney, Gary Greenwald, had argued in a writ of habeas corpus that the high bail amount is inappropriate and unconstitutional for a promoting prostitution charge. Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan (See Profile) earlier had denied her request to change the bail, saying “ultimately it goes to the risk of flight.” Gristina, 44, has pleaded not guilty.

In an April 9 hearing over the writ, Manhattan Justice Charles Solomon (See Profile) said he reviewed the minutes from prior hearings and said Merchan gave his reasons in great detail for setting the $2 million bond. Merchan “considered the arguments, he made a decision,” Solomon said, adding that the decision was “not an abuse of discretion.”
