Tony Pezzano and Michael Dougherty have left Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft to join the intellectual property practice of King & Spalding as partners. Pezzano and Dougherty focus on litigation involving abbreviated new drug applications to the Food and Drug Administration and pharmaceutical litigation, King & Spalding said in an April 23 press release. Clients have included Merck & Co. and Hoffmann-La Roche.

Pezzano was a partner and Dougherty a special counsel at Cadwalader. In interviews, Pezzano and Dougherty said they needed a better platform for growing their practice and King & Spalding offered more lawyers with Ph.D.s. “King & Spalding is a fantastic platform for our growing practice, especially in the pharmaceutical field,” Dougherty said. He added that the pair are bringing their clients with them to King & Spalding. A spokesman for Cadwalader declined to comment on the departures.
