A disbarred Manhattan attorney, Howard Blau, yesterday admitted that he stole $138,500 from five clients between March 2007 and May 2008. He pleaded guilty to second-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud. Blau, 69, faces up to 4 1/2 years in prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 1 by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller (See Profile).
Blau took money from a client’s escrow account and persuaded four others to invest in a fraudulent real estate scheme. Though he promised the four clients a 20 percent return on their investment, he used the money for his own benefit and ended communications with the clients.
