Some associates in Dewey & LeBoeuf’s New York office were told yesterday in a meeting that May 15 would be their last day, according to an associate at the firm who was told by others who attended the meeting. “We’re all kind of upset and angry about all of this,” the associate said. “These people ran a huge legacy law firm into the ground… There’s basically been no communication with us.” Dewey representatives did not reply to requests for comment.

Meanwhile yesterday, the partner departures continued, as a string of law firms announced they had hired ex-Dewey lawyers. About 140 partners have left the beleaguered law firm since January. Venable hired a six-attorney real estate team from Dewey, including Peter Britell, Gordon Davis and Suzanne St. Pierre as partners, Susan Golden as of counsel and two associates. Venable says the team’s addition more than doubles the size of its New York real estate practice. At Dewey, Britell was of counsel, Davis and St. Pierre were partners and Golden was counsel. Britell was a former chair of Dewey’s global real estate and construction practice.
