An Appellate Division, First Department, panel has affirmed the dismissal of a discrimination lawsuit filed against Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom by Rita Gordon, a former counsel in the firm’s litigation department who was fired in 2005 allegedly for charging clients for personal car service use. Gordon claimed her car service use was no different from that of other Skadden lawyers. She claimed the car issue was “a non-discriminatory excuse for terminating a 60-year-old woman and replace her with a younger man whose demeanor and conduct was more consistent with the ‘macho’ image of Skadden’s Litigation Department” (NYLJ, July 8, 2008). The suit sought $8 million in damages.
