An attorney found to have “abdicated control” of his escrow account, let a paralegal handle a real estate closing on his behalf and allowed clients to improperly influence his professional judgment has been suspended for four years.
A panel of the Appellate Division, Second Department, suspended Thomas F. Cusack III on May 15, holding he engaged in a range of professional misconduct while working as in-house counsel for companies owned by, controlled by or affiliated with Thomas Kontogiannis, the now-incarcerated ringleader of a mortgage fraud conspiracy that pocketed more than $98 million.
