Two lawyers from defunct Dewey & LeBoeuf have opened an Albany office for Cullen and Dykman, a 275-attorney law firm based in Garden City. Brian FitzGerald, who led Dewey & LeBoeuf’s Albany branch, joins as a partner and practices in the areas of utilities, banking, education, litigation and bankruptcy. Joining him is former Dewey associate Gregory Nickson.

Dewey, which once boasted more than 1,000 attorneys, filed for bankruptcy on May 28. It had six attorneys in its Albany office in 2011. “Cullen and Dykman’s focus on client value and developing long-term relationships with utilities provides significant opportunities for me to better serve my clients,” FitzGerald said in an e-mail.
