A Long Island lawmaker who admitted revealing portions of an internal investigation about police failures in a domestic violence case that led to a woman’s death was found in contempt on June 7 by a federal judge, but the lawmaker vowed to appeal.
Eastern District Judge Arthur Spatt (See Profile) said Peter Schmitt, the presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature, had violated the judge’s confidentiality order during an 18-second TV interview on Feb. 7. He ordered Schmitt to pay a $2,500 fine.
