As victim advocate Mary Santaromita prepared a 12-year-old boy to testify before a grand jury about the traumatic experience of being sexually abused, the boy seemed anxious and hesitant, said Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan.

“Do you like dogs?” Santaromita asked as she introduced the boy to Bronksey, a 2-year-old black labrador/golden retriever who became Donovan’s first four-legged employee last month.
