A woman’s harassment conviction following an encounter with police has been vacated by a state appeals panel, deeming it against the weight of the evidence.
In June 2010, as Officer Zakia Faiz and other officers attempted to shut down a Brooklyn street party, people began hurling epithets at Faiz. Faiz then approached Ebony Traber, telling her she was either under arrest or being issued a summons, though there was contradictory testimony. In the struggle, Traber bent Faiz’s pinkie and said she would “punch [Faiz] in the face.”
