Personal-injury firm Jacoby & Meyers has merged with Chicago-based Macey Bankruptcy Law to create a 300-attorney firm with about 135 offices across the country. The merger boosts Jacoby & Meyers’ debtor bankruptcy practice, which will be called Jacoby & Meyers-Bankruptcy and will be based in Chicago. Macey Bankruptcy Law brings more than 125 lawyers and about 100 offices to the table; four are based in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx.

The merger is part of Jacoby & Meyers’ plan to expand practice areas under “one main brand,” said Chase Givens, mergers and acquisitions manager at the firm. The firm is interested in expanding mass torts, criminal defense, family law, trusts and estates, Social Security and disability, contracts, immigration and other areas. Additional mergers are possible by the end of the year, Givens said, although he declined to identify the targets.
