A Brooklyn man is suing his attorneys for not looking after his interests after he received only $111 from a $150,000 settlement, while litigation finance companies received the bulk of the funds.

Elwin Francis retained Mirman, Markovits & Landau for a trip-and-fall personal injury case and received cash advances on his recovery mainly through Law Bucks and Law Cash. After the Mirman firm took about a third of the $150,000 as a contingency fee, the funding companies took the rest, Francis alleges in a malpractice suit against the firm and its partners, Michele Mirman, Thomas Markovits and Ronald Landau.
