A judge on July 20 ordered the former partners of dissolved 12-attorney Arkin Kaplan Rice who continue to share office space to roughly split rent payments for the time being. Manhattan Acting Supreme Court Justice O. Peter Sherwood (See Profile) is presiding over a suit brought by Stanley Arkin and his partner Lisa Solbakken on behalf of Arkin Kaplan Rice against Howard Kaplan and Michelle Rice and their new firm, Kaplan Rice. The suit charges that Kaplan and Rice have continued to occupy office space without paying rent and have refused to report hours they billed at the Arkin firm, which was founded by Stanley Arkin in 1968.
Sherwood ruled that based on Kaplan and Rice’s use of space, they will pay slightly more than half of the $127,000 monthly rent payment while Arkin and Solbakken will pay the rest.
