A judge has refused to dismiss the case against Anna Gristina, who is accused of running a multi-million-dollar prostitution ring based on the Upper East Side. Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan (See Profile), in a decision released yesterday, rejected arguments that she had been the victim of vindictive and selective prosecution.
Gristina’s attorney, Norman Pattis, claimed in his dismissal motion that she had been interrogated for hours and denied counsel despite repeatedly requesting it. He said the prosecutors asked Gristina to give information about five men, including “a prominent New York lawyer,” a member of a politically prominent family in Manhattan; and a prominent international banker, among others. Pattis did not name the men.
