An attorney who acted pro se in suing his ex-wife for bad parenting and damages for emotional distress not only lost his case, but has been hit with sanctions by a judge who found the action baseless, frivolous and “an act of retribution” designed to subject the mother to needless legal expenses.

Madison County Court Judge Dennis McDermott (See Profile) observed that the attorney/plaintiff, who is not identified in the decision, knew that as a lawyer representing himself he would not incur legal fees and made clear that “he was willing to risk defeat for the satisfaction of having forced the defendant to incur significant legal expenses.”
