This April, the city enacted a text amendment to the Zoning Resolution of the City of New York called “Zone Green,” which removes impediments from the Zoning Resolution to implementing certain green technologies in both existing and new buildings.

Previously, the regulations of the Zoning Resolution governing, in particular, building height and floor area and permitted obstructions within required setbacks, yards and open space, presented obstacles to the use of green technologies because they did not provide any exceptions for green technologies. Zone Green facilitates the use of these green technologies by removing existing impediments in the Zoning Resolution to ensure a level playing field.
