Southern District Judge Richard J. Holwell announced on Feb. 7 that he has resigned from the bench to return to private practice. He is forming a boutique litigation firm with Michael S. Shuster and Daniel P. Goldberg, with whom he practiced at White & Case before being appointed to the bench in 2003 by President George W. Bush.

The firm will be called Holwell, Shuster & Goldberg. Mr. Shuster and Mr. Goldberg come to the firm from Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman. Dorit Ungar Black, a commercial litigator and international arbitration specialist, most recently a partner at Kasowitz Benson, is also a founding partner of Holwell, Shuster & Goldberg. The firm will focus on complex commercial litigation, securities fraud, antitrust, international arbitration, white-collar and government investigations.
