Nassau County Supreme Court Justice Joel Asarch, a 12-year veteran of the bench whose responsibilities included the adjudication of guardianship matters, died on March 3 of a heart attack. He was 60.

Asarch’s judicial career began in 2001 as a District Court judge. In 2004, he was tapped as an acting Supreme Court justice handling guardianship matters pursuant to Article 81 of the Mental Hygiene Law. He was elected in 2007, with a term set to run through 2020.
