Members of a new Commercial Division Advisory Council were announced yesterday by Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman (See Profile). The list of 37 names includes lawyers from large, mid-sized and boutique firms, current and former judges and in-house counsel for several major corporations. The council will be chaired by Robert Haig of Kelley Drye & Warren.

The permanent Advisory Council will work to implement a series of recommendations proposed by Lippman’s Task Force on Commercial Litigation in the 21st Century. The recommendations, outlined in a June 2012 report, addressed such issues as large docket loads, levels of judicial support and procedural hurdles. "It is now time to take the next step," Lippman said in a press release. "The Advisory Council has been charged with implementing the Task Force’s recommendations, keeping me apprised of developments in the business world that may affect the court system, and working to help our Commercial Division better understand and respond to the needs of the business community."
