The average number of federal employment discrimination suits filed in upstate New York declined by 20 percent in the last decade, and fewer cases went to trial, according to a recent study of litigation trends.

The study by defense firm Bond Schoeneck & King compared lawsuits filed from 2001 to 2010 in the Northern and Western districts compared with the prior decade.
