LOS ANGELES – Federal prosecutors have agreed not to sanction Melvyn Weiss for violating his supervised release following his arrest for drunken driving in Florida.

Weiss, 77, who spent more than a year behind bars after pleading guilty to charges that his firm, then known as Milberg Weiss Bershad & Schulman, had paid kickbacks to lead plaintiffs, was scheduled to complete his three years of supervised release on Feb. 5. Under his 2008 plea agreement, Weiss agreed not to commit any crime while on probation.
