A litigation funding company cofounded by former securities class action lawyer Sean Coffey after his unsuccessful race for New York attorney general is no more.
BlackRobe Capital was formed in June 2011 by Coffey, a former partner at Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann, and by Timothy Scrantom, one of the founders of the well-established litigation finance firm Juridica Capital Management Limited (NYLJ, June 21, 2011). In April 2012, Michael Chepiga, an ex-member of the executive committee at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett, became the third principal.
