The White House has nominated Rochester attorney Elizabeth Wolford to a judgeship in the Western District, moving her one step closer to becoming the first woman judge ever in the Buffalo-based district. Wolford, 46, was recommended earlier this year by U.S. Senator Charles Schumer to fill a seat that opened in December when Judge Charles Siragusa took senior status (NYLJ, March 7).

If her nomination is approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, a confirmation vote in the full Senate is expected this fall.
