Former U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman has joined Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman as senior counsel. Lieberman said he was contacted by about 15 firms and had discussions with eight of them. "This was not an easy choice," he said. Lieberman, 71, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate in 2000, retired in January after serving 24 years in the Senate representing Connecticut.
Kasowitz is "a relatively young firm," said Lieberman, but "I’ve known Marc Kasowitz for a long time" and was impressed by the firm’s "independence" and "quality of lawyers." Lieberman said he would focus on independent and internal investigations, and play a role in client development. He will be available for strategic counseling related to government interaction or business decisions and to represent foreign companies and individuals in the United States, he said. Though he would like to continue a public policy role, Kasowitz will be the "base of my professional life," he added.
