Proskauer Rose litigation partner Herman "Hank" Goldsmith died on June 5 after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 50 and continued to practice law until his last few days.

Goldsmith built his practice at Proskauer representing clients in the financial services, real estate and entertainment industries in cases involving copyright, intellectual property and other areas. He represented several of the world’s largest record labels in A&M Records v. Napster, 2001 U.S. Dist LEXIS 2186 (N.D. Cal. 2001), a landmark intellectual property case that held the peer-to-peer file-sharing website responsible for copyright infringement.
