A unanimous Appellate Division, First Department, panel has disbarred Manhattan mergers and acquisitions attorney Tabber Benedict, who pleaded guilty to multiple counts of vehicular assault in November 2012 and is now serving a 3 1/2-to-10-year prison sentence. Benedict admitted that on July 4, 2011, while driving drunk, he hit and seriously injured a cyclist. He further admitted he fled the scene until he was stopped by witnesses. He was subsequently arrested.

After Benedict was sentenced in January, the First Department's Departmental Disciplinary Committee moved for his disbarment, which is automatic for attorneys convicted of New York felonies. Benedict did not respond to the committee's petition. According to Benedict's website, he has worked for White & Case, Schulte Roth & Zabel, Hughes Hubbard & Reed and, most recently, insurer the ACE Group.
