With one of the most famous surnames in legal history, New York City Corporation Counsel Michael Cardozo came to the profession with a unique pedigree initiated by his distant ancestor, the legendary jurist Benjamin Nathan Cardozo. But Michael has managed to make a little legal and family history himself.

As the 77th and longest serving corporation counsel in the city’s history, Cardozo oversees an office of more than 600 lawyers and manages some 80,000 cases. His commitment to public service, knack for modernizing and energizing the Department of Law, willingness to take on ground-breaking litigation and dedication to improving the lives of New Yorkers demonstrate Cardozo’s impact on the community over the past 45 years.
