During her remarkable career as a lawyer and jurist, Judge Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick has broken barriers and forged new paths while leaving a legacy as a passionate judge who cared deeply about the disenfranchised and underprivileged citizens of New York.

Judge Ciparick’s role as a trailblazer in the court system is legendary. She became the first woman to supervise the court attorney pool in the New York City Criminal Court. After taking the bench she was the first Puerto Rican woman to serve as a trial judge in New York state’s history. And in 1993, she became the first Hispanic to be appointed to the New York State Court of Appeals.
