The Appellate Division, Third Department has grown tremendously over the past century.1 From its original five justices, our court has more than doubled to 12 seats, eight of which are currently filled. In addition, the number of decisions issued each term has increased exponentially. The 14 cases reported in full opinion and the 29 decisions reported without opinion from the January 1896 term have grown to over 200 full opinion and memoranda decisions issued each term.
