ALBANY – New York has agreed to recognize adult guardianships in 37 other states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico in return for recognition of its own guardianship arrangements.
The state has formally adopted a Uniform Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act, an acknowledgement of the mobile nature of society and of legal problems that can arise when incapacitated adults are moved from one state to another.
