A crowd of about 70 people sat in the red velvet seats of the Apollo Theater in Harlem on Tuesday, many of them furiously scribbling notes. Onstage, corporate attorney Vaughn Buffalo, who represents small- to middle-market companies, talked them through legal essentials for small businesses. His audience was comprised of entrepreneurs, from independent graphic designers to mom-and-pop restaurant owners to the heads of small nonprofits. They came to participate in a free, daylong Small Business Legal Academy, the first such event hosted by the Association of Pro Bono Counsel (APBCO).
