A Brooklyn attorney who is serving time after pleading guilty to stealing $200,000 from his brain-damaged ward has now been disbarred. The Appellate Division, Second Department, disbarred Ray A. Jones Jr. on Wednesday as a result of his felony conviction for second degree grand larceny.

The underlying conviction arises from Jones’ embezzlement of funds from his ward, Josephine Robinson, when he was acting as her court-appointed guardian (NYLJ, Dec. 3, 2012). When Brooklyn prosecutors pressed their case against Jones, they argued Jones’ misconduct was not an aberration; they pointed to his handling of the estate of a boy born with deformities where a judge refused Jones’ legal fee request and ordered him to pay an approximately $500,000 surcharge, plus interest (NYLJ, May 25, 2011).
