The start of every new year is a time for reflection, resolutions and hopeful new beginnings. For the New York State Unified Court System, it is a time to reflect upon all we have accomplished in 2013, while resolving to confront the challenges of the year ahead and laying the foundation to hopefully embark on the road to recovery.
Two years ago, in my first Bar Week article contribution as Chief Administrative Judge, I submitted that the New York Court System was at a crossroads and that we had to restructure and reinvent the way we did business in light of fiscal realities. Since that time, the New York courts have risen to the challenge and done just that. Working under zero-growth budgets, we have rethought every aspect of our operations and explored all possible ways to increase efficiency without compromising our ability to fulfill our constitutional mission.
