A lawsuit challenging the security plan for the World Trade Center was dismissed Thursday, as a judge rejected nearby residents’ arguments that a system of barriers would burden their neighborhood with fortress-like security.
“The WTC site does not resemble ‘a walled city’ at all” under the plan, Acting Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Margaret Chan wrote in In re Matter of WTC Neighborhood Alliance, 101498/13, though she added that the security checkpoints and vehicle-screening areas were “somewhat uninviting.” Chan ruled that the proposal had received the proper environmental review.
