The distributor and seller of a highly flammable sealing chemical may be liable for the death of a man who died in a flash fire while renovating a Bronx apartment, a unanimous Appellate Division, First Department panel ruled Tuesday.

Justice Judith Gische wrote the opinion in Public Administrator v. 485 East 188th Street Realty, 300589/08, joined by Justices Peter Tom, David Friedman, Rolando Acosta and Karla Moskowitz. The decision affirmed most of a June 2012 order from Bronx Supreme Court Justice Alison Tuitt.
